I entered this race in February when the Tennessee legislature chopped up the congressional districts to give Republicans an extra advantage in the coming elections, and I knew that nobody who’d announced their candidacy represented my beliefs–so I’m going to tell you a few of them:
I believe everyone has a right to their own body, and that the government has no business telling you want to do with your body. Abortion is a fundamental, constitutional right that shouldn’t be infringed.
I believe in strong public education, universal healthcare, common sense gun regulations, and freedom of religion and speech.
I believe that people deserve the opportunity to come to America. Immigrants-whether they came here by choice, or in chains–built this nation, and if we want to continue to be a great nation, we will welcome them.
I believe that free and fair elections where everyone has the chance to make their voice heard are the bedrock of our democracy, and we need to fight with every fiber of our being those like Donald Trump and his cronies in congress who want to turn this country into a dictatorship.
If you believe the same things, then I believe I’m your candidate.
